Alvin Chen

Welcome to my hub for realist political theory.

I am a political theorist working on ethics and public policy. My research interests span across several disciplines, from the earlier works on the history of social rights to the recent studies on the intersection between bioethics and public policies in an age of digital transformation and international conflicts.

Work in Progress

I am currently working on a book entitled Public Health Constitutionalism: The State’s Duty to the Right to Health. The book investigates the state’s constitutional duty to both the right to health and the global health community in an age of increasing political conflicts. I am also completing two journal articles on Responsibility in AI-Human Relations and the Politics of the Rights of Child.

Research

I am a theorist with multi-disciplinary skills. My earlier research traces the history of constitutional and social rights. More recently, I have been devoting my works to what political theorists called “realism in political theory”. Specifically, I work on the bioethics, law, and public policy. My works have been published on leading journals including History of Political Thought and Public Health Ethics.

Funded Research Projects

I have outstanding records in funding applications. Since 2019, I have successfully received four multi-year research fundings for my projects on AI Ethics, Public Health Ethics and Law, Constitutional Theory, and the History of Rights.

Translations

I am also a professional non-fiction translator. I translate academic works with annotations and translator’s introductions, bridging professional academic research with the interests of general audience.
